Drink Review: Mischief Brew

mischief brew cans standing on a light blue coloured background

Last year, my twin sister @aurorabraid (the cooler one) sent me a can of Pina Picante, and I fell in love with its pineapple flavour. She’s been into Mischief Brew mixers for a while, so when I started exploring non-alc drinks, they were my first pick. Before summer, I treated myself to a 4-pack of every flavour, perfect for festive feasts, date nights with Dave, or crafting sessions.

About the brand:

These small-batch, natural sodas are handmade in South Australia with local ingredients. They are described as “high-end mixers” and “thought-provoking.” Consider my thoughts provoked!

Packaging:

Each can has a minimalist black and white design with its signature medieval gothic calligraphy logo. Flavours are shown with different coloured “Australian Made” stickers on the front, kind of like a fruit sticker, which I thought was cute! It’s giving: less is more in a very design-forward, simple, but bold kind of way.

Flavour:

Each flavour is strong and memorable. The combinations are thoughtfully crafted, which made me try to identify the unique ingredients. They are not too sweet and not artificial.

Texture & Mouthfeel:

Bubbly without being overwhelming. The tonics were crispy, and the sodas were light and refreshingly non-syrupy.

Value for Money:

$2.50 - $3.00 per 250ml can when purchased in a 24-pack. Although smaller than a standard 375ml soda can, the portion feels intentional. They are perfect for sipping slowly or pairing with a meal.

Ingredients:

Natural flavours from local ingredients, with no nasties!

Vibe:

MB drinks are like the cool, alternative cousin of mainstream soft drinks. They are a little rebellious, stylish, and way more fun.

My Picks:

Aperitivo Spritz, Quandong Soda, Tonic NO.2.

Best enjoyed when:

Staring deep into your lover’s eyes, mid-toasted sandwich bite, knowing you’ve had enough water that day to justify this treat.

Pair it with:

Homemade dinners, Hermanos Gutiérrez, and if you’re drinking straight from the can, a perfectly cut stubby cooler.

Who might love?

Anyone who enjoys sweet but complex drinks appreciates thoughtful design and loves supporting Aussie brands.
