Me Made: Solee Top
Please welcome back, my SEWJO!
After going missing for a couple of weeks my sewjo has finaly returned with a growing list of projects in hand. Surprisingly, I didnt miss it that much and enjoyed finding creative inspiration at the opshop. You might have caught some of my (somewhat chaotic) opshop and try on hauls via my Instagram stories. Well, I’ve put a pause on the opshopping for now to get back into sewing and first up is this two piece matching set!
I thought I should ease back into sewing with a tried and trusted DIY project so I chose to make a Rectangle Ruffle Skirt. I have a bunch of these in my wardrobe already and they get a lot of wear but I dont need more of the same. In fact, all of my me made skirts and dresses are LONG which is a result of me being self concious about my legs. I’m currently on week 7 of a health and fitness challenge (including NO ALCHOHOL) and I’m feeling better than I have for years. I’ve gained a little bit of body confidence so, I thought I’d use the tutorial to make a mini Rectangle Ruffle Skirt! I whipped it up in no time and used the left over fabric to make a matching top!
Pattern: DIY Rectangle Ruffle Skirt & Solee Top by Natalie Ebaugh
I followed the skirt tutorial exactly and just shortened my rectangles. The skirt rectangle measured 35cm x 136cm and the ruffle rectangles measured 20cm x 136cm. For the matching top I used the Solee Top tutorial that can be found on Natalies story highlights. I’ve had this on my list for ages because its a fantastic use of rectangles to make something super cute. Im all about sewing with rectangles! It took me less than 2 hours to sew up both of these pieces and I’m so happy with them.
Fabric: Bellis Liberty Tana Lawn from The Fabric Store
I got about 1.5m of this fabric back in February with the intent to make a top but I actually love it as a two piece set. The print features small white dasies on a dark purple background with little flecks of pink, red and blue.
Has legs, will wear short skirts! There will definitley be a couple more of these coming :D
